Baccarat is the card game traditionally played by the European aristocracy, and synonymous with glamorous casino locations like Monte Carlo. You can now play it online from the comfort of your own home.
Baccarat is a card game that is played by predicting the winner of each round. You can either bet on the Player or on the Banker, or predict that there will be a tie. The winner of a round is the hand that is the closest to 9 in value. In this version of Baccarat, the cards are dealt from a shoe containing 8 decks.
How the Baccarat hand values work:
Each card has a value, as in the table below
| Card | Value |
|---|---|
| King | 0 |
| Queen | 0 |
| Jack | 0 |
| 10 | 0 |
| 9 | 9 |
| 8 | 8 |
| 7 | 7 |
| 6 | 6 |
| 5 | 5 |
| 4 | 4 |
| 3 | 3 |
| 2 | 2 |
| Ace | 1 |
To calculate a hand value you add up the value of the cards in it – with a twist – if the value of the hand is 10 or more, you subtract 10 to get the final value of the hand. For example, if the hand contains a 9 and a 5, this adds up to 14. Subtract 10 to get a final value of 4.
To play online Baccarat, first choose a chip size using the + and – buttons, and Then place a bet in one of the three betting circles – the Player, the Banker, or a Tie.
Both the Player and the Banker are now dealt two cards each (depending on the card circumstances either of both may subsequently get a third card as well). The card values are added up and the hand that is closest to 9 wins (except in the case of a tie).
Once the Baccarat hand is over, you are paid out on your bets. If you bet on the Player and the Player wins, you are paid out at 2:1 odds on your original bet. If the Banker wins, you are paid out at the same odds, but a 5% commission is deducted. A Tie is paid out at 9:1 if you bet on it. If you bet on either the Player or the Banker and it is a tie, your bet is returned to you.
